A Model of Faith

“…I also am a man set under authority, with soldiers under me;” Luke 7:8 [NRSV]

A Model of Faith

May is worth the wait for us to finally baste in the fragrance of blooming flowers, and welcome warm breezes, sunny days, and pleasant evenings for casual walks.  After a drudging through months of cold and snow some of us eagerly go out and arrange beautiful flower pots full of annuals and plants on the porch, deck, and yard.  Gorgeous flower gardens blossom—their floral profusion reaches up high toward the sky, seemingly in utter delightful praise and honor of the Creator.

Memorial Day is a great time to raise up flags and adorn the graves of fallen soldiers with flowers to honor and reflect on their dedication.  In today’s world of increasing travail, this is a precious day of reflection on those who in faith, took on the charge as their duty to courageously protect our country even to the point of death.  Their model of faith goes far beyond their medal of honor—because without their shield of faith to go serve there would be no medal of honor to cherish.

Without faith, there would be no special day to help us to honor, recognize, and remember our precious loved ones that are still alive and to keep alive fond memories of the sacrifice of those who are resting in the warm embrace of the LORD.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Lurecie M. Stokes
