God Has Set Eternity In The Human Heart

He has made everything beautiful in its time. He has also set eternity in the human heart; yet no one can fathom what God has done from beginning to end.  Ecclesiastics 3:11

Our text unveils the blessing of Easter Sunday…eternity is connected to the heart. We are reminded how much God loves us and that when it comes to eternity, Jesus commanded… “‘Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind’? Luke 10:27 Thanks be to God for His love, grace and mercy!  Even though our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ died on the cross for our sins, God’s resurrection power raised Him from the grave! At the cross we see an awakening, an awareness of the spiritual connection to the physical as intended when God… set eternity in the human heart. But why? The human condition is always in need and human hearts long for God’s intervention. As such, so that we may not lose faith nor hope, our spirit man must always know that we are connected to the Almighty God who is the Ancient of Days and Creator of heaven and earth. He is the Eternal God; this our hearts know. Proverbs 3:5 5 says “Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding”. Eternity has been set in the human heart because the heart can perceive what the mind has not fully conceived. The human heart can perceive spiritual things and the love of God. How amazing it is that the heart is the place where we first knew God!

The Confessions of St. Augustine asserts it this way―― “Our hearts, Oh God, were made for Thee, and never shall they rest until they rest in Thee.” At the darkest moment, from the cross Jesus cried out to our Father with His whole heart. When there are times of desperation and the heart cries out… there must be something more than this! It is then that the Eternity in our hearts helps us to remember the cross beyond Easter. When our hearts and our minds are pointed to Jesus we cannot help but to remember the cross. At the cross we are reminded that God’s prophylactic love is always hanging between our problems and the solution. The Greek word Prophylaktikos means to be on guard. The Lord, God of heaven’s army is always guarding us!

We are always in the presence of the one whose years will never end. The bible says that when we pass away, our spirit returns to the Lord. And the message of the cross says, we who belong to Christ will be resurrected. Jesus said, “I give them eternal life, and they shall never perish; no one will snatch them out of my hand. Jn. 10:28-30 “And this is eternal life, that they know you the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom you have sent”. Jn. 17:3 }  He is the eternal God who knew us in the womb even before our members were formed and placed eternity in our hearts.

The effect of eternity in our heart is a transformation of our perception from what appears to be immovable events into a workable and immersive faith, shifting our consciousness to God’s power and presence, His everlasting love and mercy that endures forever. Eternity is set in our hearts because we must always remember the cross beyond Easter, Jesus holds the solution to our every need.

Yours in Christ,
