IT’S CHRISTMAS!

Do whatever it takes! Go all out! Put everything in!

“the messenger whom you desire, will come…”.(Mal 3:1)

Malachi, the last book of the Old Testament, was written to correct religious and social behavior. It was a time when people justified evil acts as good in the Lord’s eyes. Their hardened hearts did not see that misconstrued perspectives had led them to become lax in their faithfulness to God. They were no longer doing whatever it takes, going all out, putting everything in. Still, God had a desire to continue His covenant of life and peace. This is the embodiment of Christmas.

Today, people, nations throughout the land are also experiencing religious and social ills which threaten life and peace. It is exactly at a time such as this that we must listen to the Christmas bells ringing the opening words of this prophecy… “I have loved you says the Lord”. God’s desire to continue His covenant of life and peace never ends. And so we have the Lord Almighty’s reassurance with these words “the messenger whom you desire, will come…”.(Mal 3:1) Praise God! We celebrate because JESUS CHRIST has come and will come again!

As believers, our Christmas celebration and decorations are intended to be symbolic adornments of our substantive faith, the evidence of things not seen and affirmation of hope that is not in vain. We have this evidence in our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ whose birth we celebrate this season. Jesus’ birth into the world continues to herald this covenant desire of new life, new beginning, relationships and peace.

However, year after year we see so many people miss the essence of Christmas as they search for the perfect gift and do whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in for the perfect Christmas. Sadly, this seldom brings peace, joy or even a sense of security. This is because “Every good and perfect gift comes from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights…”. “God chose to give us birth through the word of truth…” (James 1:17-18) and everything that pertains to life and godliness. Christmas is about living out our covenant of love and peace from a heavenly perspective. It is the birth of true life, new ways of seeing things, new opportunities, forgiveness, starting over again, re-affirming our relationship with God and extending this love to others.

This is what Jesus Christ did for us. So on His birthday wouldn’t it be great to actually give a birthday gift of love and faithfulness to Christ by doing whatever it takes, going all out, putting everything in to become the perfect Christians?

What a marvelous idea! Come all year faithful!

Let’s take the opportunity to receive the perfect gift by not turning down Christ for something physical that will pass away. Let us do whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in to become the perfect Christians.

Let’s take the opportunity to serve the perfect meal; do whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in to do the will of God to finish the work he has given each of us.

Let’s take the opportunity to enjoy the perfect supper; do whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in to partake in the Lord’s Supper.

Let’s take every opportunity to give the perfect gift, whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in to give the message of Christ.

Let’s decide that everything we do this Christmas will sing out joy to the world the LORD who has the ability to bring all things under His control, has COME!

Do whatever it takes, go all out, put everything in to become the perfect Christians.

What a wonderful birthday gift to Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior!

Merry Christmas
