Let the Spirit Reign

“The Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom.” II Corinthians 3:17

Let the Spirit Reign

Each year Americans across the United States, celebrate Independence Day on July 4, hosting picnics, family reunions, attending parades with marching bands, concerts and a bevy of other events in observance of the freedom that we enjoy in this country. Indeed, on Independence Day the American spirit of celebration pervades every media venue throughout the nation—television, the internet, radio, newspapers, and magazines.

What we need nationwide is an ongoing spirit of celebration and appreciation—an indwelling of the empowering Spirit of God in our families and communities across the land rather than a party, fireworks, and picnics on one special day. Every day as citizens of the USA, we are blessed to be afforded another chance to let that divine Spirit reign that fosters appreciation of our precious freedom derived from years of blood, sweat, and immense suffering.

Freedom has given all of us a reason to live and do well and to thrive and survive at one’s own pace. The precious moment by moment steps that, we as a people take, on our life journey in this country, reflect how we really regard the freedom of the now and the not yet. These steps can be for some, a testimony of the Spirit that reigns in our hearts; the Spirit that afford us the possibilities derived from hope and ambition to live and love and serve each other as God desires.

Let the divine Spirit of love, joy, hope, compassion, patience, and temperance reign in our hearts always so that we are forever cognizant of the great value of our freedom and the devotion to each other that is an indelible expression of being truly free.

Yours in Christ,

Rev. Lurecie M. Stokes
