No Strain No Gain

“Forgetting those things which are behind and reaching forward to those things which are ahead.” Philippians 3:13 (NKJV)

It is true that God desires that all humanity live vigorously in great expectation of the gift of each new day. The text however gives even more comprehensive directive which is to first forget about the past. Forget about—just shake off those things that are over and done with. Those terrible trials that were a strain on our faith and walk with God. Forget about those mistakes in relationships, ambitions, and other unfortunate courses of action.

But rather secondly, instead of dwelling on the past, to put some muscle in actively moving forward toward God’s gift of a future. This movement involves reaching and perhaps even straining spiritually, physically, and emotionally towards God’s best for us on as a lifestyle. Believers are called to reach for what God has in faith, in obedience, and an earnest trust in God’s perfect will for our lives all the time. God even promises to reward those who faithfully seek Him.

Make no mistake, whatever God has for each us involves our reaching for a more meaningful communion with God; reaching for a more insightful understanding of his Word, and decisively reaching forward to be a more intentional witness for Christ in every area of life.

Yours in Christ
